Shape a place
Build on desktop or in VR with approachable world-building and mesh-editing tools.
In development
somwyr is a place for making places—an approachable world-building platform for desktop and VR, designed for creating, scripting, sharing, and exploring together.

About somwyr
somwyr is being built to give creators capable tools without making expertise the price of entry. Start with a shape, learn by making, and keep going as far as the idea asks.
01
Build on desktop or in VR with approachable world-building and mesh-editing tools.
02
Use Code Blocks to add interaction without turning a first idea into a programming exam.
03
Make places meant to be explored, shared, and shaped by the communities that inhabit them.
State of somwyr · July 2026
The pieces are beginning to connect. This is the current direction of the project—not a promise that every system will arrive exactly as described or in a particular order.
Most recent work has gone into establishing the desktop editor. The major workspaces are now represented: Build for arranging worlds, Modeling for custom meshes, Scripting for visual Code Blocks, and Materials for surfaces and textures.
They are still early and need refinement, cleanup, better interactions, and plenty of bug fixing. Even so, somwyr is beginning to feel less like a collection of experiments and more like one connected tool.

The current direction is a unified avatar body with a broad range of shapes and proportions. The first version will likely begin with a small selection of clothing and customization options, while the body itself is designed to support meaningful variety and personal expression.
Modeling, rigging, skinning, texturing, clothing, animation, and testing all need to come together. People with experience in those areas are invited to reach out.
After the Materials workspace becomes more usable, the current roadmap turns toward central services for accounts, friends, presence, ownership, publishing records, and the shared systems that connect the platform.
From there, the direction moves toward voice communication, multiplayer, collaborative building, world storage, and publishing. The order may change as technical needs become clearer.
VR is not intended as a side mode. It is one of the primary reasons somwyr exists, especially for communities displaced by closing or changing creative social platforms.
The goal is capability parity across desktop and VR, with interfaces suited to each platform and cross-platform play. Current thinking is that VR work may begin appearing around v1, likely after the first closed-alpha wave rather than at its beginning.
somwyr is still early, and there is an enormous amount of work ahead. But work from different parts of the project is beginning to support one another.
Not one prescribed universe.
A place for places.
The workshop is still lit. The tools are still being made. And, little by little, they are starting to become somewhere.
Help build somewhere
Programming, 3D art, visual art, audio, writing, community work, testing, and other disciplines all have a place in the workshop.
